The Engine Room, located in the old art deco Post Office, has quickly become one of Auckland's top restaurants with a simple ambience and classic bistro-style menu.

Relaxing after work, or over the weekend Sausalitos is always the perfect location for good food and a quiet drink, and then you can pop next door to see the latest art-house movie or one of the old classics at the Bridgeway Boutique Cinema - a long standing institution on the Shore.

The Stafford Rd Wine Bar offers a chance to catch up with friends after work, or simply to enjoy a glass of good wine.

Potential Unlimted have quality almost new baby toys and clothes while next door the Antipasto Deli have a glorious range of local and imported delicacies.

Drop into Point Wines and taste the latest vintage from a wide range of New Zealand and overseas wines then stock up with a case lot.

The Point Taken takeaways will put the "bite" on serious hunger pains with fresh fish and golden chips... mmmmh.

Northcote Tavern

37 Queen Street, Northcote Point. Tel 09 480 7707/p>

The Northcote Tavern stands today as it did when built in 1884, facing Auckland city and the surrounding harbour, looking out on magnificent views which have been built out over time but it still retains the charm and atmosphere of a by-gone era. The Highlander Bar, with it’s delightful outside garden, is a family lounge bar which serves the local community well and Callans’ Sports Bar looks after the dedicated sports fan. Point Espresso is a new café accessible on the west side of the Tavern - great for a coffee on the way to the ferry.

Pottery cups and board

Chrissie and Charlie Seakins are artist potters producing contemporary tableware and art pieces. Platters, bowls, bakers, cups and saucers decorated in Pacifica inspired designs make ideal gifts for weddings and special occasions and just to brighten up your dining room. The garden studio on Historic Northcote Point is open Monday to Saturday and Sunday by appointment. Their latest work utilises the interaction of two radically different glazes to create a new interpretation of the "craquelle" glaze.
